In 2018, we’re hoping to share our passion for proper cooking with more people than ever before.

We’ve created a new set of courses which pack a pair of fantastic recipes – and lunch with wine – into a slightly shorter day than our full courses. Liven up your lemon drizzle skills with Bake it Beautiful, learn the secrets of our Swiss Muesli Bread with Knead to Know or explore slow cooked pork belly on our Just Cook course.

And if you’ve ever wished you could replicate our much-loved potato rösti at home, our new Make The Bettys Swiss Rösti course will teach you everything you need to know.

Chef’s Table – Let The Entertainment Be~Gin!

For those who prefer a more leisurely experience – join us on the evening of Friday 11th August to watch our skilled tutors at work as they guide you through the creation of this on-trend, light and delicate entertaining menu. Dishes are inspired by the subtle flavours of Harrogate’s botanically infused Slingsby Gin and there will also be a demonstration of Slingsby Gin based Cocktails to compliment these lovely dishes.

Summer Young Chef Courses

We have full day and half-day classes available for 8-11 year olds and 12-16 year olds in early August.

The emphasis of our Young Chef courses is to develop confidence in the kitchen, to teach skills that will last a life time and to create a passion for home cooked food. Working individually at their own work station in our well-equipped kitchen and, always under the keen and watchful eye of our nurturing tutors, your Young Chefs will create tasty, fresh and exciting dishes to take home at the end of the class.

Once again our Cookery School tutors will be demonstrating delicious festive creations at this year’s Country Living Christmas Fair in Harrogate. Appearing each day they will share their expertise, knowledge and ‘top tips’ as they work and we will be featuring these recipes on the website after the event so that you can try them for yourself at home.

Learn the things the cookbooks don’t tell you with Bettys Baking Secrets

Each week during the new season of Great British Bake Off we’ll be sharing Bettys Baking Secrets in short films and downloadable, slip-them-in-your-recipe-book hints, methods and tips. Our Cookery School tutors know exactly how to ensure your bottoms are never soggy and we’re going to reveal them to you. These are the things the books don’t tell you; the notes that you write in the margins of your cookbook.

There will be clues about cake, suggestions for choux, and knowledge about kneading. All the things you need to get from dozy dough to star baker.

Out & About - The Great Yorkshire Show 2016

Our tutors had a fantastic day in the fabulous new Food Hall at the showground during this year’s incredible show. They were interviewed for the Stray FM Food & Drink Show and were proud to exhibit their culinary skills, demonstrating a Whitby Crab Seaside Salad and Tea Smoked Venison with Lingonberry Jam for visitors.

BBC Good Food Show 2015

The ultimate day out for food-lovers returned to the Yorkshire town of Harrogate, from 10th – 12th April 2015. The BBC Good Food Show – Spring, brought an incredible range of independent, artisan food and drink producers, well known brands, and the opportunity to see celebrity chefs including James Martin and Mary Berry.

The Day Great British Bake Off Winner Nancy Came to Bettys

On 5 December, Nancy Birtwhistle, winner of 2014’s Great British Bake Off, joined forces with us to deliver a one-off demonstration course.

We are all Bake Off fans at the Cookery School and so were thrilled that Yorkshire woman Nancy was crowned winner this year. It was a real honour that she did her first demonstration with us, particularly because her approach to baking is so close to the one that we share with our customers: consistently good tasting cakes and bakes delivered through mastering the basics, practical ‘know how’ and attention to detail.

Standing behind our demonstration counter, Nancy said ‘I feel so proud and so privileged to be invited here to Bettys today. I think people are wanting to learn how to bake again which really excites me because there was a worry that some of these skills were going to disappear. I came here on a cookery course 12 years ago. Never ever in my wildest dreams did I think I would be the one giving the demonstration!’

Festive Leftover Quiche (PDF, 360Kb) with her signature pastry and a Cranberry and Orange Swiss Roll (PDF, 446Kb). We are pleased to share these recipes with you so you can try them for yourself.

We were delighted to share this lovely experience with an intimate audience of aspiring bakers, including some of our most regular Cookery School customers and some ‘next generation’ bakers who we’ve supported through our Cooking for Schools programme.

Bettys Cookery School named Best Cookery School in the UK!

Independent judges have named Bettys Cookery School the best cookery school in the UK. Last week we triumphed in the Best Cookery School category at the Looking to Cook UK Cookery School of the Year Awards. Then this week we followed it up with a Highly Commended at the British Cookery School Awards in London.

We’re all thrilled with this exceptional double whammy. With more than 400 cookery schools in the UK today, we were pitted against some very tough competition and the success represents an outstanding national endorsement.
